We've been to both and liked both of them. You can find some pix/notes about them on my web site (see signature below).
Have a great trip!

RE: EZ PASS

Although we live in MA, I got our EZPass in MD - no charge for the transponder and no monthly fees. They charge my credit card $25 whenever the balance drops below a certain level - $10, perhaps? There's a Service Center just over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge going toward Annapolis.
I have the windshield type in the car and the license plate mounted transponder on our Class C. Works great.

RE: CG Picture Reviews and Campsite Maps

Thanks, folks, for all your very kind comments. Brad - not a problem at all being added to your links; a nice compliment - thanks! And that's quite a spiffy "new" truck you just got - congratulations.

CG Picture Reviews and Campsite Maps

I've recently made some improvements to my web site, mainly with the addition of over 200 maps of campsites at CG's around the country. You can also find reviews with pictures and notes of over 135 CG's we've visited. Perhaps it will help you with planning a trip.

We'll be at Mayport for two weeks over the Christmas/New Years holiday period - love it there. Then we're going to head down to Patrick AFB for a spell.

RE: Northern Florida State Parks

We've been spending winters in northern FL for a number of years now, without reservations 99% of the time. Of the inland parks, Stephen Foster is most popular and weekends can be tough without reservations. Along the Panhandle coast, it's not too bad Jan - Feb, but in March the parks there get pretty busy.
I might suggest East Bank COE CG on Lake Seminole, literally on the FL/GA border. The COE has more first-come/first served sites than the state parks do. In FL, 10% are supposedly first-come/first served, but they are often used for volunteers and thus not available for public use (a practice that annoys me).
There's also a USFS CG with hookups just east of Lake City. We haven't stayed there yet, but will give it a try this winter.
You can find pix and notes about a number of the places we've stayed on our web site (see signature below).
Have a great trip south and keep your eyes open for a green/white Lazy Daze class C - that'll be us.

RE: Natchez Trace

There are a good number of campgrounds along the Trace. There are three free CG's right on the parkway, and then there a number of of state parks and some COE parks. I've posted pix/reviews of the CG's we stayed at in 2007 on our web site (see link in signature).
It's a great trip - take it slow and enjoy!

RE: Internet usage

I'll echo Hershey's comments about Verizon. With two of us on-line, whether at home or on the road, we have yet to exceed 2 GB in a month. That's with a lot of surfing and maintaining a small web site.

PS: I like Hershey's photo!

RE: Dry camping in Florida

Last year for a shuttle launch we stayed a night at the Titusville Wally World - there were quite a few of us. Although not on the water, it wasn't far, and the price was right. The next morning we claimed our spot for viewing the launch.

RE: North Florida Recommendation

Both FL and GA offer some great state parks, along with a bunch of beautiful COE parks in GA. Our favorites are St Joseph Peninsula SP in the Panhandle and Stephen Foster SP near the junction of I-10 and I-75. GA parks have a great deal with a Friends of the State Parks package that gets you discounted camping, historical site entrance, and shopping at park souvenir shops. If you're going to be there more than a few days, you can save quite a bit.
You can see pix and notes on the parks we've visited down that way on our Toad Hall web site below.
Although, as others have noted, north FL can get chilly, it doesn't last long, and when you're from up north (we're from MA), it sure seems pretty nice anyway.
Have a great trip!

RE: Maine coast

The Maine coast is a great place to explore. You're never very far away from things to explore. There are lots of great campgrounds all along the coast - you can find pix and notes of our favorites on our Toad Hall web site below.
Enjoy your trip.

RE: Space shuttle launch Nov 14

We were there for the launch of STS-122 back in February. There are a number of parks along the river that afford good views, but....they're closed to RV's on launch days. A friendly parks employee directed us to an area just north of the Rt 406 bridge at the north end of Titusville, which turned out to be a great spot.
See some pix of the launch and where we were.

RE: What did you do to your Class C MH today???

Installed new illuminated rocker switches to control power flow to the weather radio and cell phone amplifier. And finally figured out why the fridge light was staying on: duh! I had the climate control switch on.

RE: Do aircards outperform tethered cells?

I teather a cell phone to my computer and I also had the same problems you described, then I bought the Wilson antenna for the cell phone and I now rarely have a dead zone, it really made a huge difference. Our phone is the LG8350.
RJ
-----------------------
RJ - you might want to be careful about plugging your antenna into the 8350. I had troubles with mine earlier this year - reception on the phone deteriorated badly. Turns out the switch in the antenna jack became stuck in the "internal antenna disconnected" position st that when I unplugged the external antenna, I then effectively had no antenna for the phone. Verizon replaced the phone, and shortly thereafter I learned that this was a common problem with the 8350. I eventually re-activated my old V276. With my USB modem for data, I didn't need EVDO capability.

RE: VA State Parks in November?

Last year we were on our way south through VA in mid-November and the foliage was great! Just past peak, but still quite colorful. It was
74 degrees on 13 Nov, with lows in the 40's. We'll take it! We stayed at Pocahontas SP - you can check out some pix on my web site below.

RE: St Andrews State Park vs. Port St Joe

We've been to both and both are nice but different. We like the quietness and solitude of St Joe, although I'm not happy to hear about the recent lack of oversight on the part of the staff. It's been a couple of years since our last visit, and we never encountered that situation. Up until 3-4 years ago, it was a "no pets" park, which solved the dog problem mentioned.
You can get a feel for the Gulf Breeze loop at St Joe here:

RE: Need campsite along I-20 near Jackson, Miss

We've stayed at Lafleurs Bluff State Park in Jackson, and enjoyed it. It's convenient to things, yet fairly quiet. About the only downside is the dusty road through the CG. You can find some pix from our visit here.
Have a great trip.

RE: What GPS System or Software?

I've been using CoPilot on my laptop for several years, tarting with version 7, then 9, and most recently 11. IMHO, 11 is a piece of******and I've reverted to CP 9 for most of my travels. I've written a
critique of CoPilot 11.. Next time I'm going to try a different brand.
